Day Laborer/Unhoused Lunches Ministry

Day Laborer and Unhoused Lunch Ministry

The Day Laborer and Unhoused Lunch Ministry at St. Hilary's Episcopal Church is a compassionate outreach initiative dedicated to supporting some of the most vulnerable members of the Hesperia and High Desert community. Rooted in the values of dignity, service, and love, this ministry provides freshly prepared meals, essential supplies, and human connection to day laborers and unhoused individuals.

Every week, church volunteers come together to prepare and distribute nutritious lunches directly to individuals at worksites, street corners, and areas where day laborers and unhoused community members gather. The meals often include fresh sandwiches, fruit, snacks, and bottled water — items that are both nourishing and portable. In addition to food, the ministry also offers hygiene kits, warm clothing, and seasonal supplies like blankets and hats during colder months.

But this ministry is about more than just providing meals. It’s about building relationships, recognizing the humanity of every person, and offering hope to those who often feel unseen. Volunteers engage with recipients through conversation and active listening, treating every encounter as an opportunity to uplift spirits and foster community.

This ministry exemplifies the mission of St. Hilary's Episcopal Church to live out Christ’s message of love and compassion. By meeting people where they are and addressing immediate needs, the Day Laborer and Unhoused Lunch Ministry embodies the church’s ongoing commitment to justice, mercy, and radical hospitality for all.
